Teleport, the logistic diversion of AirAsia freightchain, launched on Friday. This makes the airline the first to embrace blockchain technology.

AirAsia Teleport, the logistics division of Asia’s largest airline, has launched the blockchain platform called Freightchain to speed up and simplify the air cargo confirmation and tracking process. With Freightchain, shippers and freight forwarders will be able to book and confirm the use of any one of AirAsia’s 247 aircraft for cargo transportation, without the need for intermediaries.

Blockchain will help track orders and sales, as well as automatically identify connected networks for cargo delivery.

Freightchain will help connect global freight forwarding firms, eliminating middlemen and agency fees. The Blockchain offers intelligent digital channels for booking cargo space in addition to increasing cargo capacity. Freightchain’s Technical Director Vishal Batra commented on the development.

“We deliberately launched Freightchain during this period of uncertainty within global supply chains, caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Agile software platforms like Freightchain help to connect uneven supply and demand amidst a rapidly evolving environment. Trust and transparency are needed now more than ever.”

According to Batra Freightchain can simplify the process of booking cargo space by providing almost 10 times faster confirmation than traditional methods thanks to “software discovery” of routes using data from the blockchain architecture.
