Jack Dorsey said the nonprofit Blue Sky will use blockchain to create an open Twitter protocol and give people more control over their data.

Bitcoin and blockchain technology will shape the future of Twitter, social network head Jack Dorsey said at an Oslo Freedom Forum 2020 online conference.

“Blockchain and Bitcoin point to a future, point to a world where content exists forever. We’re not in the content hosting business anymore, we’re in the discovery business.”

His newly formed non-profit organization Blue Sky is recruiting a team of architects, engineers and designers to create a public blockchain platform and open Twitter protocol, Dorsey added. The ultimate goal is to make Twitter its client, the social networking leader said. According to him, security is not something that can be perfected, but a “constant race”:

“You see this most fundamentally in bitcoin and in blockchain. The keys will be more and more in the hands of the individual”.

Last year, Dorsey said that Twitter would finance the development of a decentralized social networking standard. In September 2020, he said that the Internet needs its own currency and Bitcoin is its best implementation.

Blockchain has use cases in many fields, including online gambling. Thanks to decentralization gamblers don’t need to trust a centralized entity when making bets.
