The Haeundae Beach System in Busan is part of a pilot project that aims to offer crypto payment solutions to beachgoers in the summertime.

Haeundae Beach, located in South Korea’s second largest city Busan, is a sandy strip 1.5km long and 30–50 metres wide. The beach attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors daily during the peak summer months from July to August. Busan’s city government has teamed up with Bitbeat CIC Enterprise, a division of the blockchain company, as well as Innotech, a company that currently provides the payment infrastructure for the city’s beaches.

According to the terms of the deal, both Haeundae Beach Authority and the nearest competitor point on Sonjong Beach (a popular neighbouring surf destination) will allow sunbathers, swimmers and water sports enthusiasts to pay for services without using cash — using debit or credit cards, as well as BTC, ETH, musiconomi token (MCI).

Crypto enthusiasts may also consider this as an option to fight the coronavirus. Thus, they will be able to pay for their beach vacation in a contactless way with digital assets, even without leaving home. The project will run until the end of the season. It is planned that next year it will be possible to renew it with a wider payment system based on a blockchain on beaches all over the city.
